Sovereign Tower Walkthrough – Acts, Quests, Choices & Endings
A full Sovereign Tower walkthrough from the prologue to the cycle-45 Emperor’s ultimatum: cycles, recruitment, missables, the Golden Key route and ending impact.
Direct answer
This walkthrough follows one recorded community route through the early game (prologue to Cycle 8), then covers what launch-week sources confirm about the mid and late game: county alliances, the Act 2 murder investigation, the Golden Key route and the Emperor’s ultimatum around cycle 45 where all endings are decided. The core loop is official: morning audiences, Round Table assignments, quest debriefs — and the Demon in the Crypts rewinds mistakes while keeping your knowledge.
How the game is structured
- Morning audiences: listen to petitions and problems from across the kingdom.
- Round Table: assign Knights to the quests you accepted, matching stats, equipment and traits.
- Debrief: results come back as Critical Failure, Critical Success or Unexpected Outcome.
Knight stats are Strength, Agility, Charisma, Magic and Wit (community quest tables also list Luck, which the official store copy does not). When things go wrong, the Demon in the Tower’s Crypts turns back time: you keep your knowledge while temporary quest progress, items and gold reset.
Community guides organize the campaign into Acts 0–3 (the demo covers Acts 0–1) and count early-game beats in cycles. One guide estimates a full playthrough at 15–20 hours.
Prologue and Cycle 1: your first knight
The prologue ends with the Leper becoming the new Sovereign of the Tower. In Cycle 1 you recruit your first knight, Angelica — let her keep her cat; she has the Animal Lover trait. You also meet the Lady of the Tower and accept Carina’s “Hammer Lost, Yet Again” quest.
Cycle 2: the Demon, the Forge and the goose
Cycle 2 opens the Crypts: the Demon lets you rewind earlier cycles while keeping knowledge and archetype progress. You recruit Goberto, unlock the Forge annex, and accept two quests that matter for secrets: The Bloody Magpie and The Clean Keeper Goose.
The goose quest is the start of the Chester recruitment chain — read how to get Chester before assigning it. In the recorded route, Angelica succeeds thanks to Animal Lover while Goberto fails on low Agility; rewinding and reassigning fixes both. For annex choices at this stage, see tower upgrades.
Cycle 3: the Intendancy
New characters arrive: Guilhelm, Alwena and Gwendan. From the tower gallery you unlock the Intendancy, where Lady Alwena can investigate one knight per day, revealing stats, preferences and secrets — use it before hard assignments.
For Face the Horde, the recorded route found Goberto the best pick thanks to his hunting trait. The goose follow-up (Chester saying something odd about the egg) can appear in this window.
Cycles 4–6: the Dragon Knight and kingdom work
Cycle 4 introduces the Dragon Knight and his ultimatum — a multi-cycle thread. Accept River Research, Bucolick Diplomacy and Haunted Lighthouse, and let the Kutnar Nomads stay to gain favour with the People.
Cycle 5: take the Kill the Beast quest, keep housing the Kutnar Nomads, and use the Kitchen to feed knights their preferred snacks — affinity also feeds romance routes. Gwendan and Ursula resolve Kill the Beast; the recorded route reaches 8 Merchant satisfaction, 11 People satisfaction and 300 Gold.
Cycle 6: send Gwendan and Goberto against the Pirates, Angelica to the Knight of the Fountain, and Ursula to recover the Oracular Cheese.
Cycles 7–8: the ambush
Cycle 7 focuses on completing the Dragon Knight’s ultimatum and recruiting Silgur; Beaconsbury’s Hunt and Ask the Nobles should land as Great Successes.
Cycle 8: choose Silgur’s plan to ambush the Dragon Knight and lower the merchants’ taxes. Assign Gwendan and Angelica to the Dragon Knight Ambush for a Great Success and the Dragon Heart. Community routes treat the Dragon Knight as the first real boss fight — after his defeat he reportedly introduces Arron, his descendant.
Mid and late game: alliances, murder and the Emperor
Beyond the recorded early route, launch-week sources confirm these late-game beats:
- County alliances are a core official feature: work with neighbouring counties to build strong alliances. Rallying the counties is also what opens one of the Golden Key routes.
- Act 2 centers on a murder investigation in Enberg; community routes say sending a high-Wit knight on the interrogation quests eventually implicates Victoria, and player guides tie the investigation to Gwendan’s questline.
- The Emperor’s ultimatum arrives around cycle 45 and decides all five main endings in one conversation — see the endings guide.
Where the Golden Key route begins
The Golden Key route starts in the mid-game: Angelica can raise her manor clue around cycle 34 (under strict conditions), or Arlin opens a kingdom-wide search once you have rallied the counties. This is the point where that route begins — see the full Golden Key guide for requirements, the rewind rules and how the Key changes the ending.
Missable content and common mistakes
- Overworking one champion knight breeds jealousy and loyalty problems — spread assignments around.
- Rewinding destroys one-time quest items your knights are holding; check inventories before visiting the Demon.
- Rejecting the goose petition delays or skips Chester until a rewind.
- Brunhilda can only be recruited by siding with Gavault on the second day (or rewinding and refusing both sides).
- Answering “It’s just a legend” to Arlin permanently locks one of the Golden Key routes.
- Community guides report rewinds may reset relationship flags — save before confession scenes.
